THE DEACONS WELCOME YOU TO BETHEL PRESBYTERIAN CHURCH!
According to the Book of Order of the Presbyterian Church U.S.A., "the office of Deacon as set forth in Scripture is one of sympathy, witness, and service after the example of Jesus Christ." See Paragraph G-6.0401. The Book of Order states further that "[p]ersons of spiritual character, honest repute, of exemplary lives, brotherly and sisterly love, warm sympathies, and sound judgment should be chosen for this office." See Paragraph G-6.0401. "It is the duty of deacons, first of all, to minister to those who are in need, to the sick, to the friendless, and to any who may be in distress both within and beyond the community of faith." See Paragraph G-6.0402.
With the foregoing in mind, the Deacons of Bethel Presbyterian Church serve the congregation in many different areas and have set up separate committees within the Deacons to better serve the needs of the congregation. Each Deacon is assigned to chair or co-chair a committee. There are also two co-moderators of the Deacons along with a secretary a treasurer.
The Deacons meet on the third Tuesday of every month and each committee chair reports on the activities of their committee at that time. Each Deacon serves for a period of three years. A list of the current Deacons can be found on the back of the worship bulletin every Sunday or you may call Eileen, the church secretary for that information. If in the future, you believe that you may want to serve as a Deacon, please contact Pastor Don.
