The First Meeting House was erected in 1779-80, located on an acre of ground purchased from Nathan Couch, perhaps because it would be more central for the families who would be worshipers there. It was an oblong log structure with a puncheon floor, split logs, smoothed on top with a foot adz and laid together like boards. As it had no stoves, some people brought charcoal foot warmers to church.
The first elders of the church were James Dinsmore, James Bryce and James Kirkpatrick.
The first trustees were Andrew Hood, David Frazer and William Tidball.
Early church families included name like Miller, Fife, Gilfillan, Johnston, Moor, Conner, Douglass, Couch, Larimer, Matthews, Morrow, Kiddoo, Bond, Thompson, Tidball, Vance, McDermott, Jewel, Patterson, Potter, Smith, Roland, Morgan, Moss, Sterling, McElheny, Hultz, Reid, Ewing, Means and Bennett.
